Mole Listening Pearls presents the next big album from Czech electropop combo Ohm Square. Famous for long periods of creating the new album “Taking Shape” was written and recorded in the last two years.

 

Ohm Square is one of the most famous Czech bands. Founded in 1996 as a trio Jan Cechtický (Jan2), Jan Kleník (Jan5) and Dušan Lipert (Dušan Only One) engaged english songstress Charlotte Fairman soon, who worked for the English dance act Wubble U as lead singer in the 90ies. But also the male colleagues of Charlotte were part of national successful band projects like The Sebastians or Colorfactory. At the beginning the band focused their creative energy on

DrumnBass and Breakbeat and released the results of their collective work on the own label Mr. Cucumber. After the first singles „Pillow“ and „Coloured Post“ the first album „Ohmophonica“ followed also in 1996 and was the start of an

impressive career. Until now Ohm Square were honoured with two Popular Music Academys Angel Awards and the caption „Band Of The Decade“ by the only Czech indie radio station Radio 1. Meanwhile they toured with Fat Boy Slim, Lou Reed, Coldcut, Kosheen and the EZ Rollers and produced three albums.

 

The follow-up longplayer of „Love Classics“ puts it concrete form. The strong songwriting and the intuition for clear and complex forms leads the sound of Ohm Square to a new quality of pop eclecticism. Placed between Soul, RnB, Breakbeat, Electro and Dance the exploding sound of Ohm Squares „Taking Shape“ fuses to light and dreamy but kind of abstract lounge styles in the ballads. It is amazing how careful the voice of Charlotte Fairman manages all the different styles and colours. Between Kosheen and Moloko exists enough empty space to fill it with this funky, smooth and complex kind of power pop spiked with enough soul, sensitiveness, creativity and candidness. This very direct and soulful album goes directly into heart and body and is definitely one of THE electropop albums in 2009.
