I promised a statement on the situation from tonight, sorry it took so long was a lot to work through while also doing the VOD's and stuff from tonight

Prior Warning:

 

Versuta in the past has been warned about streaming The Defense matches, back when the livestreams were still on own3d.tv and he was attempting to stream on twitch (which as you can imagine goes against the then current sponsor of the tournament).

 

While there was a peace in this sense as he agreed not to stream any Defense matches but still protested that a Russian stream must be available (which was in the hands of our streaming partner SLTV).

 

What happened tonight:

 

With Versuta advertising the coverage of Empire vs VP on his livestream tonight, I requested of TwitchTV to stop the streaming of The Defense games on Versuta's livestream, Twitch staff members then closed his stream.

 

This in turn spilled hatred into the chat of the jD stream and rumors of DDOS requests, which have no evidence whatsoever. It was an issue with us getting a connection out to the ingest server, not an attack.

 

After tonight:

 

I have talked to Versuta about the issue, while we are obviously not communicating well, be it points I have raised in the past, actions tonight, or pure languages, but it is obvious that the action I requested tonight was based on assumptions (the channel title and the DOTA TV menu visible, and his previous breaking of rules).

 

No matter how it is looked at Versuta did no deserve based on his actions tonight, to have his stream shut down tonight and for this I am sorry. While I may want this problem to be dealt with, this is not the method it should be done.

 

Respect to the partner streamers:

 

This is one of the primary reasons why everything written here is so important to me, people dedicate their time to cast The Defense and other jD projects and deserve to have as much support as can be provided. In this scenario I am refering to SLTV already streaming the event.

 

Streaming from DOTA TV:

 

This is something I have made my opinion on quite known after the talkDOTA on Tuesday night, to make a short summary; I believe that DOTA TV should be purchased for private use and if you wish to use it publicly then you have to request permission from the organiser to do so.

 

DOTA TV is something new for us all to get used to and guidelines on this topic need to be establish not only from streaming platforms but also from Valve themselves.

 

Valve opinion on the matter:

 

This I am still searching for, as I have had a conversation with Valve and have been told that it will be discussed internally. At this point tho I have pushed for the DOTA TV ticket to be treated like a purchased DVD, allowing the owner to use it for personal use, but if they want to display the material publicly permission must be sought from the organizer.

 

The current rules of the DOTA TV ticket state that there is no exclusivity with the ticket, meaning you may do whatever you wish with your ticket.

 

Security for sponsors:

 

With every tournament you run, your sponsors are sold a level of exposure be this through branding in game, and in the intro videos or from website impressions on micro sites. Either way an organizer must ensure that what is promised is delivered. When a streamer takes it upon himself to stream and he takes a large portion of the viewers for that language / region and is not a partner streamer (displays the sponsors correctly) then the organizer of the tournament shows no secruity in his brand.

 

This is why there are set streamers for competitions not only to ensure the sponsors requests are met, but also to avoid miss representation of other sponsors (for example a razer logo being shown on a non partner stream when ROCCAT is the official sponsor).

 

Streaming permission from before:

 

There was permission given to all that wished to stream:

 

"Every player and spectator in the game is allowed to provide a video stream. This video stream however has to be hosted on own3d.tv and has to have a delay of at least two minutes"

 

This was done at the request of own3d.tv to encourage more streamers to be on their platform. With the closure of own3d.tv the rule (6.4) became invalid, as we allowed the partner streamers to start using twitchTV but never expressed any change in this already existing rule.

 

RaidCall Cup caught in the middle:

 

This was the intended match to be streamed of Versuta unknown to myself, while I disagree with the method of him streaming it is 100% in the hands of RaidCall / EG to decide how it is handled.

 

In Closing:

This is not an issue I feel will or should go away, while I am sorry Versuta was put through the mistakes of tonight it is something that he and other casters / organizers will be debating over the next few weeks until we can find a solution that all parties are happy with.
